What is Restylane?
Restylane is a collection of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers and the first of its kind to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
It is a gel-like substance that is injected into the dermis of the skin in order to increase volume and smooth wrinkles or folds. It is an affordable and minimally invasive non-surgical treatment for mild to severe signs of aging. Restylane is most commonly used to enhance lips, treat wrinkles in various areas of the face, increase volume in cheeks, erase under-eye bags, and restore volume and moisture to the hands and feet.
How does Restylane work?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally within the body. Hyaluronic acid aids in soft tissue moisture retention.
As the primary ingredient in Restylane dermal fillers, it improves the skin’s condition over time while the gel consistency of the Restylane formulas delivers instant volume to target areas that may have become wrinkled, saggy, or sunken as a result of aging. The Restylane line is known for its versatility, as each formula is designed for specialized treatment of a range of issues. Particle sizes vary between Restylane formulas to best treat a variety of areas and conditions.
Restylane formulas with smaller particles are used for more delicate areas of the face, such as to treat bags under the eyes or to plump the lips. What to Expect
When you arrive for your Restylane injection treatment, the treatment area will be prepped with a cleanser and a topical numbing medication. The injections will only take a few minutes. Depending on the number of injections needed, treatment can last 15 minutes up to 1 hour. There is no downtime following treatment. You may return to your regular activities, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 hours.

Recovery After Restylane
Recovery from Restylane treatments is minimal. You will be able to apply makeup and return to work immediately, though you may experience some swelling and redness around the injection sites. These issues should subside within 24 to 36 hours of treatment.

Who is a good candidate for Restylane injections?
Restylane is an effective treatment option for healthy adults with mild to moderate signs of aging. Restylane should be avoided by anyone with severe allergies.
What are the side effects?
Swelling, redness, bruising, and scarring may develop around injection sites, though these conditions typically subside within a few days. Numbness and tingling may exist for several days, but this is normal and not necessarily a cause for concern. Lumps may also develop within the first 24 hours of treatment and may be gently massaged.
What should be avoided after Restylane treatment?
Sun exposure should be avoided for 1 week following treatment, as well as tanning beds, saunas, and extreme cold. Avoid medications such as aspirin, warfarin, St. John’s wort, or high doses of Vitamin E which may contribute to bruising.
