What are Dermal Fillers?

At A Younger You Med Spa in DeLand dermal fillers are offered as an injectable substances that are used to replenish volume to areas that may appear sunken, wrinkled, or saggy.

Dermal fillers have a gel consistency which creates a soft, supple feeling similar to naturally firm and youthful tissue. Dermal fillers have become one of the most popular types of cosmetic treatment as an affordable and convenient alternative to surgical procedures. Our DeLand Med Spa offers a variety of dermal fillers to help you realize a younger you!

How Dermal Fillers Work

Dermal fillers provide a multi-faceted solution to skin aging.

In addition to the increase in volume, which is evident immediately upon injection, dermal fillers also contain skin-enhancing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found within the body. Its primary purpose is to promote moisture retention in soft tissues. When injected, hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers not only create instant volume but also boost the skin’s moisture retention and collagen production.

As a result, these fillers improve the skin’s tone, texture, and elasticity over the following months. Dermal fillers may be used to restore volume and rejuvenate skin in several areas of the face, as well as the hands. Dermal fillers are commonly used to increase volume in the cheeks, plump the lips, reduce the appearance of lines on the forehead, erase lines around the nose and mouth, reduce the appearance of scars, or augment the chin or nose. We strive to provide you with the best dermal filler treatments DeLand has to offer, so schedule an appointment with our med spa today!

What to Expect

When you arrive for your dermal filler injection treatment, your skin will be sanitized and prepped with a topical anesthetic before injections are administered. Depending on the size and number of areas being treated, dermal filler treatments may take 15 minutes up to 1 hour. There is no downtime following dermal filler injections. However, exercise should be avoided for 24 hours to prevent the fillers from spreading away from target areas.

Dermal Fillers FAQs

What are the risks and side effects of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers, while considered safe, can cause side effects. Dermal fillers may cause redness, swelling, skin rash, itching, bruising, or small pimples. There are also risks of asymmetry, infection at injection sites, lumps, bleeding, scarring, and rarely, skin necrosis or blindness.

What should be avoided following dermal filler injections?

Intense heat should be avoided until swelling and redness have subsided. The consumption of alcohol as well as strenuous exercise may worsen bruising.

How often should fillers be touched up?

It is typically recommended to schedule follow-up treatments 18 to 24 months apart.

Who is a good candidate for dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are an effective and generally safe option regardless of age or gender. However, there are some conditions that may contraindicate the use of dermal fillers. Smokers and those with severe allergies should also avoid dermal fillers.

What is the difference between dermal fillers and botulinum toxins like Botox?

While the purpose of fillers is to deliver volume, botulinum toxins such as Botox temporarily paralyze muscles in the area in which they are injected to reduce dynamic wrinkles. Botulinum toxin does not increase volume.
